First and Foremost I would like to thank each of you for the encourgement, support and votes in my recent run for the Board of Education.
I think that I heard from all of the 306 (I was 307) people who voted for me yesterday, via phone, text or Facebook message. It was wonderful!
Many of you mentioned the potentially impending resignation of a board member and encouraged me to pursue that position. I want you to know that I did speek with Mr. Bonnewell and Mrs. Brown and even wrote a letter to them and the Board...I will not be sending...
The fact is the current board has already discussed in excutive session and publicly announced that they will seek a past board member to fill that position until the next regular election. The next fact is I was not elected, and like it or not, that does not give the board any justification to appoint me. I do not ever want anyone to have an opportunity to say "she's only on there because...."
If the board had decided to hold a special election 90 days after receiving a resignation (if they get one) I would pursue it. At this point that is not the plan.
I do not know if public voice could change that decision or not, but I do not feel as though (after sleeping on it) it is not my place to make such a request on my own behalf. Again, it just wouldn't "look good."
If other members of the community would like to pursue this, you have my blessing. But after a great deal of thought about this, I am choosing to support the BOE in their decision, whatever it ultimately is.
